About Illinois VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active In Disaster)



The purpose of the IL VOAD is to maximize the effectivenes of various volunteer organizations responding  to natural and man-made disasters.


The VOAD's role is to bring together disaster stakeholders and enable them to understand each others needs and capabilities and to work together through disaster preparedness, response, relief, and recovery.


The Illinois VOAD adhere to the principles established by the National VOAD. The principles are referred to as the 4C's:

  • Cooperation
  • Communication
  • Coordination
  • Collaboration

These principles serve as the foundation for the Illinois VOAD as it collaborates with local, regional and national partners to coordinate disaster relief, response, and recovery efforts in times of disaster.


The Illinois VOAD is the local state chapter of the National VOAD (nvoad.org), and is a partnership of various government, profit and non-profit organizations active in disaster response throughout the State of Illinois.
